I agree, Shadowhelm, what a mess. Vista's slogan, "Bringing clarity to your world" is misleading... too many people are confused about what to expect. Over-hyped, maybe?

Supposedly someone has already cracked Vista Ultimate. =)

So, basically the functional code is available on any version of the OS, but it is disabled by the initial license key. Drop $100+ extra on MS and you get to actually use that functionality. Just great! I wonder exactly how long it will take someone to hack this little scheme and open Ultimate up to all comers.

I remember a shareware version of Quake that I bought many years ago that included the full version along with EVERY other game ID had produced up to that point. They used the same idea. Contact ID and get a key and you could unlock individual games. In less than an hour after bringing home the $5.00 disc I had full versions of every game including the massively popular Quake. The key scheme was already broken and a multitude of apps where out there to generate working keys. This will be the same thing. Sure it will be a battle with Microsoft's Genuine Advantage "service", but that will be dealt with as well.

The only thing that having so many different versions of Vista is going to accomplish is to confuse the general consumer. The Vista launch has hardly pulled out of the station and it is already a train wreck.
