I spend a lot of time on the internet. OK, make that a ginormous amount of time. I also contribute to the web frequently and in various fashions via text, photos, video etc. Even I can’t keep track of it all. I’ve found a way to pull more than a few of my content feeds together so people won’t HAVE to visit my websites, just this one. Yay!

Polar Rose has recently invited a few people in to test out their facial recognition software. Upon creating your account, you are prompted to download the Firefox extension (sorry IE/Safari). Every time you see a facial photo online, a small rose will hover and allow you to type in a name for the face. These will then be stored on site and searchable.
This reminds me of Spock, the people search engine that collects people’s names and online presence (+ more). But what does this really offer? To what end do we catalog various names/faces?
With Riya, you can train the webware to recognize faces for you and offers photo hosting/blog posting. But all for naught since hey have moved to Like.com visual shopping. Disappointing.
Polar Rose has offered some new features before the Beta test like favorites and faces as your profile pic but that is it for now. How is this marketable? What is the ROI? What is next for face recognition software? Lastly, who will acquire Polar Rose?

photo captured by Polar Rose from Riya.com. Ironic, no?

When sending an email to a family member, I discovered something new in Gmail tonight. Just below the “attach file” section are options to add photos from a URL address, a table, emoticons and photos from Picasa Web Albums.
Neat or annoying, you decide!
Special thanks to Ike at Occam’s Razr for pointing me towards a site that highlights who you are and what web services you have a membership to. The services (Flickr, Last.fm, etc) listed are vast and almost exhaustive.
Onxiam is simple and does have a community feel to it in that you see what other sites you have in common with other folks.
If you’ve got the time, fill out your member profiles and get connected.

XAML is a declarative XML-based language that defines objects and their properties in XML. One of the focuses of the XAML syntax is defining the user interface for both the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight. It is therefore separate from the application code behind it and facilitates separation of design and development. XAML also allows for better cooperation between the developer and the designer in a way that has not been available with previous technologies. XAML is not just used for display technologies such as WPF and Silverlight. It is also used by other .Net technologies such as Windows Workflow (WF). This session will give you an introduction to XAML, the tools used to work with XAML, and how it relates to the technologies that rely on it.
Lunch will be provided by McWane Center for an additional cost. You may order a lunch from McWane for $10 or bring your own. The cut-off for ordering a lunch is Tuesday, July 31 at noon.
Parking is free in the McWane Center parking deck. Enter via the Special Events Center entrance, which is located in the northeast corner of Level C. Reserve your spot now!
