Micro Mojo

I’ve caught the micromedia or microblogging bug and it may very well be terminal. I’m proud of my early-adopter and beta tester status but I was slow to catch this trend and even now still feel like I am not using it to full potential. As one’s time and attention and have shrunken down, more audio/video/blogs are shrinking their content to this bite-sized media. This is why Techno Mojo has been neglected. I’ve been keeping up with web apps and sharing my thoughts with these web/mobile apps in an effort to communicate.

Lifestreaming-

Twitter/Jaiku/Pownce- In 140 characters or less per post, mention anything you want or share links with anyone and everyone you want to. Think of it has hyper-text messaging and not to be confused with an instant messenger client. All have RSS feeds so you can track them and read others. Be sure to research all of the various Twitter 3rd party applications that enhances the experiences.

Voice Blogging-

Utterz/Jott- Using your mobile phone, you can add/embed a post to your website and/or have it hosted on their websites. Use the RSS feeds to send to Twitter/Jaiku/Pownce and notify your contacts.

Microblogging-

Tumblr/Soup/Facebook- I use these to catch all of the aforementioned applications into one neat little blog. Combo Mojo receives feeds from Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, Flickr, The Mojo Network, YouTube, Vimeo, Utterz, Jott and so much more. Why go to all of these sites when they are pulled into one?

Micro Video-

Seesmic- this is a web app that appears to be like Twitter but with video added. I say “appears to be” because it is very difficult to get an invitation to this limited beta tester application. I would use the heck out of this, given the chance. Did you like the not-so-subtle hint?

UStream- live streaming video rocks my socks. Includes chat client.

Kyte.tv- read above

Click on the links below to find me on these web apps:

Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, Utterz, Tumblr, Soup, Facebook, Ustream, Seesmic (coming soon?)

I spend a lot of time on the internet. OK, make that a ginormous amount of time. I also contribute to the web frequently and in various fashions via text, photos, video etc. Even I can’t keep track of it all. I’ve found a way to pull more than a few of my content feeds together so people won’t HAVE to visit my websites, just this one. Yay!

Joost Invite Winners

OK, as promised, the 5 best comments on Joost wins an invitation to the very Beta software that changes online video.

  1. Jan says: “
  2. Hello from Spain!
Sorry, my english is a garbage. My reasons are that i think Joost seems to me a good idea to try to introduce the TV in the PC´s. Most of young people it is leaving back to the traditional TV because it does not offer more than things about famous people, tv shows with lots of publicity and bad schedules. I personally prefer the model of unloaded the chapters of the series (Lost, 24, Battlestar Galactica, etc) of Internet (direct unloading, torrent, emule,…). You see them with subtitles, without cuts for advertising and with digital quality. But I would like to prove Joost.

  3. Ike says ” Because Birmingham peeps have to stick together”
  4. Zach said ”
  5. Well, let me tell you why I need a Joost invitation:

I have a great setup around me in terms of all the things I really take joy out of in life. In front of me is my desk with my computer and stereo on it. To the left of the desk is my bed. To the right of the desk is my guitar stand. Beside the guitar stand is my keyboard. Turn a little bit to the wall opposite my desk and you’ll find a large bookshelf filled with books ranging from The Gunslinger to The Lord of The Rings series.

In all of this you may have noticed I haven’t mentioned a TV. I have everything I love surrounding me in my own little bubble, but I have no TV. I long for the pperfect environment, and having a TV or Tv replacement would fulfill that.

    Be my wishmaster.”

  6. Cheng mentions this: “
  7. Why should I be given an invite?
I mix with a bunch of pessimist at work when it comes to internet TV. I myself think it’s a great idea and have been defending joost during our conversations. Giving me an invite will give me a chance not only to proof to people how good joost is but also to contribute towards it’s improvement. I’ll be an asset to this media.”

  8. Casey says there would be sexual favors performed. Neat trick since they are in England. Request denied. Move on, perv.
  9. Carlos says “Cable tv sucks!” ok, agreed.

Stay tuned for the next round of invitations. Thanks Joost!

Netflix Offers Watch Now

article written by Nicholai

The image “http://www.hometheaterblog.com/hometheater/images/dvd-case.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.Recently I was given a chance to try out a new service that Netflix is offering, one that allows you to watch movies right in your browser (ONLY IE6+). While this service is great, it is really hard watching a movie on your computer as you feel lagged after a while. Today we will be looking at the Matrix. The first part of watching movies is to download some Netflix software, so just download that and IE is ready to go. You choose a movie, it even gives you a movie that is available that is currently in your queue. Loading was rather quick on an average modem, so no special high speed connection necessary, and basically you just watch it. A nice little secret they don’t tell you is it supports keyboard shortcuts, probably because it is a front-end for Windows Media Player, so all the basic controls such as SPACE(Play/Pause) and ESC(to exit full screen) work here, so that’s nice. As for the interface, well it is really simplistic and essentially just a bar that has a play/pause button, a full screen button and a slider. The quality of the film is auto-adjusted based on your connection speed. Mine is okay, but don’t be surprised if you have a 30 inch screen and it looks really bad.

You can watch the video demo here

The image “http://www.zamzar.com/images/zamzar-logo.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. Zamzar is an online conversion service that lets you convert almost every type of file to virtually any other file format , for example one might want to convert a Microsoft Word Document(.doc, .docx) to an Adobe PDF(.pdf), this is where Zamzar comes in. Really, it’s an online converter. Zamzar works with video, audio, photos, documents and other file formats. Today we will be using one of Zamzar Tools to input a Youtube or Google Video (flash) and output say .mov for iTunes and the iPod.

NOTE: this tutorial is available on Zamzar’s site, so really I am just explaining in people terms. Also this works with other Video services.

Steps

DRAG THE FOLLOWING BUTTON TO YOUR BROWSER BOOKMARK BAR IT IS A BOOKMARKLET: A SHORT PIECE OF CODE.

Convert with Zamzar

  1. Now go to any Youtube or Google Video here’s one to save time: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xJDfzosfkbI
  2. Now click the “Convert with Zamzar” button you just placed in your Bookmark bar
  3. You will be taken to a page and the first box is already done so just go to the second and select a file type you want in our case its MOV, but you may want 3GP for your cell phones
  4. Enter your email address as they will send you the file when it is finished converting
  5. Wait
  6. Check your inbox and there it is

Arrested Development on MSN Video

Arrested Development cast The funniest and most creative comedy on television. Ever. Arrested Development, is a show about a housing developer arrested for numerous corporate abuses. His son, Micheal must save the company and his spoiled, useless family too. Narrated by Ron Howard, the show lasted only three seasons even though it was a 2-time Emmy winner. Look for tons of small, inside jokes consistent in all 3 seasons, a lot of hysterically-timed bleeps, black CENSORED bars and over-pixelated body parts. Everyone is a scene-stealer.

Now available online at MSN Video

Also, Micheal Cera, one of the two child actors on the show, has grown up to produce, direct and star in an online comedy for CBS’ InnerTube. Look for it soon.
